CT University Develops Affordable Smart Trouser

In a significant step towards practical and people-centric innovation, the Robotics Lab at CT University has developed a Smart Trouser designed to address common issues of lower back pain while helping users maintain the correct knee position during sitting.

The innovative project was developed through a collaborative effort by the Robotics Team of CT University, School of Design & Innovation, and AIESEC student Ismail Ashraf from Egypt. The smart trouser integrates simple yet effective technology to provide comfort and support during prolonged sitting.

The key feature of the Smart Trouser is a heating pad that provides warmth to the lower back, along with two vibrators designed to provide vibration-based stimulation to the lower back. The heating and vibration functions can be operated through two buttons incorporated at the front of the trouser as buckles. The device offers three different intensity modes for vibration, allowing users to adjust the experience according to their preference.

The Robotics Team comprising Er. Pulkit Sangar, Er. Dharmpreet Singh and Gurkirat Singh successfully completed the project in just one week, with the entire prototype developed at a cost of less than ₹2,000, demonstrating that meaningful innovation can also be affordable and accessible.

The idea was initially discussed with Gurdeep Singh from the School of Design & Innovation, who contributed to the project by suggesting and incorporating the heating pad feature, further strengthening the functionality of the prototype.
