CT University’s SOHMAT Celebrates Grand Cake Mixing Ceremony 2025 with Festive Spirit and Hands-On Learning

School: School of Hotel Management, Airlines and Tourism

CT University’s School of Hotel Management, Airlines & Tourism (SOHMAT) organized its annual Cake Mixing Ceremony Festival 2025, continuing a joyful and globally cherished pre-Christmas tradition celebrated across the hospitality industry. The event marked the official beginning of the Christmas and New Year festive season, combining cultural significance with practical, industry-oriented learning.

The ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of the university’s higher management including Pro Chancellor Dr. Manbir Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Simranjeet Kaur, Registrar Sanjay Khanduri, Director DSW Er. Davinder Singh, and Head of the School SOHMAT, Dr. Ashish Raina, along with faculty members, supporting staff, and enthusiastic students of SOHMAT.

The Cake Mixing Ceremony symbolizes unity, prosperity, and togetherness. Students and faculty collectively mixed an assortment of dry fruits, nuts, spices, and flavoring agents with fruit juices and wine to prepare the traditional base for the Christmas cake, which is allowed to ferment over time to develop rich flavor and aroma.

Learning Through Tradition: Practical Exposure for Future Hospitality Professionals

Students of the 1st Semester participated with great enthusiasm as faculty members explained the history, significance, and professional techniques associated with cake mixing in the hospitality sector. The session highlighted key ingredients such as raisins, almonds, cashews, pistachios, apricots, dates, cherries, candied peels, cinnamon, nutmeg, and essences. Students were also sensitized to hygiene standards, fermentation processes, food safety measures, and baking protocols followed in professional kitchens.

Dignitaries, faculty, and students gathered around a beautifully decorated mixing table, wearing gloves, aprons, and chef caps—symbolizing discipline, teamwork, and professional ethics. The environment was filled with festive cheer, Christmas melodies, and vibrant energy, creating moments of joy and collective learning.

Messages from University Leadership

Pro Chancellor, Dr. Manbir Singh, shared:
“The Cake Mixing Ceremony reflects our commitment to experiential learning and cultural awareness. Such initiatives help students understand global hospitality traditions while strengthening their professional skills and teamwork.”

Head of the School SOHMAT, Dr. Ashish Raina, remarked:
