C T University Explores Global Frontiers in Medical Mycology and Silk Worm Research at Teikyo University, Japan

School: School of Allied Health Sciences

In a significant step toward reinforcing international collaborations, a distinguished delegation from CT University recently visited Teikyo University, Japan, to explore research partnerships and academic exchange opportunities.

The delegation was led by Dr. Vir Vikram, accompanied by his Ph.D. scholar Roy, marking a pivotal initiative in advancing cross-border academic cooperation.

During the visit, Dr. Vir Vikram and Roy engaged in in-depth discussions with Teikyo University’s esteemed faculty members, including Dr. Atsushi Miyashita and University Director Koichi Makimura.

The conversations revolved around identifying mutually beneficial areas of research collaboration, with a particular focus on joint research initiatives, student exchange programmes, and faculty development opportunities.

These discussions laid a strong foundation for building sustainable frameworks that will enhance the educational and research experience for students and faculty from both universities.

A special highlight of the visit was Dr. Vir Vikram and Roy’s engagement with the Mycology Department at Teikyo University, where they are working on innovative research involving silk worms.

The team gained valuable insights into different developmental stages of silk worms and interacted with researchers and scholars, exploring possibilities for collaborative projects and knowledge sharing.

This exchange of ideas promises to open new avenues in applied research, with a vision to address global challenges in the field of medical mycology and beyond.

The Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology (TIMM), established in 1983 under the leadership of Dr. Shoichi Okinaga, has earned global recognition as a pioneer in medical mycology research.

TIMM’s extensive work covers the development of diagnostic and therapeutic methods for fungal infections, research on antifungal drug resistance, and the preservation of invaluable pathogenic fungal strains.

These activities support ongoing studies in phylogeny, epidemiology, immunology, and chemotherapy of mycoses, and have positioned TIMM as a leader in fostering international research collaborations.

Pro Chancellor of C T University, Dr. Manbir Singh, lauded this initiative, stating, “Such collaborations will open new horizons for our students and researchers, enhancing their global exposure and enriching their academic experience.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Nitin Tandon further emphasized, “This partnership marks a pivotal milestone for CT University in strengthening international research collaborations and sharing knowledge that can positively impact society.
