CT University Hosts International Workshop on Zebrafish Models in Pharmaceutical Research

School: School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Hands-on Learning and Ethical Research Take Centre Stage at Two-Day Scientific Workshop

Experts from India and Nepal Join to Advance Biomedical Research and Innovation at CTU

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at CT University successfully organized a two-day international workshop on “Zebrafish Models in Pharmaceutical Research”.

The event drew an impressive gathering of participants, including 10 researchers from Nepal and 27 students from across India, reflecting CT University’s commitment to fostering cross-border collaboration and global learning.

The event was skillfully led by Dr. Vir Vikram, Principal, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, whose vision and leadership ensured a comprehensive blend of theoretical learning and practical exposure for all participants.

The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of zebrafish as a powerful model organism in drug discovery, toxicity testing, and biomedical research.

The sessions were designed to provide in-depth knowledge of zebrafish handling, behavior assessment, and ethical research practices. Participants received hands-on training in zebrafish care and management, including safe transfer techniques, stress minimization, and maintenance of ideal tank conditions such as water quality, temperature, and light cycles.

The module also covered behavioral analysis methods to assess drug responses and toxicity effects in zebrafish, a crucial component in pharmaceutical innovation.

A special emphasis was placed on ethical euthanasia techniques, ensuring that attendees understood and followed humane practices in line with international animal welfare standards. Dr. Vikram, along with other domain experts, highlighted the importance of ethics, accuracy, and institutional compliance in modern-day biomedical research.

One of the key highlights of the workshop was the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Dinesh Kumar Badyal, Vice Principal, Christian Medical College (CMC) and Hospital, Ludhiana. In his address, Dr. Badyal emphasized the significance of adopting innovative biological models like zebrafish for drug development and biomedical studies.

He praised CT University for promoting research-driven education and for bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.

Speaking about the successful conduct of the workshop, Chancellor Sd. Charanjit Singh Channi lauded the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences for organizing an event that contributes meaningfully to the scientific community. He said, “CT University takes immense pride in facilitating such international academic exchanges that empower young researchers with skills and ethical values essential for advancing medical science.”

Pro Chancellor Dr. Manbir Singh also appreciated the initiative, stating, “Workshops like these reinforce CTU’s commitment to experiential learning and research excellence. By integrating global perspectives and ethical research practices, our students are better prepared to lead innovation in pharmaceutical sciences.”

The workshop concluded on a high note with participants expressing immense satisfaction over the hands-on learning experience, expert mentorship, and exposure to advanced laboratory practices. The event stands as yet another milestone in CT University’s mission to nurture future-ready researchers equipped with global competencies and a strong ethical foundation.
