About the Programme

The Bachelor of Laws is intended to be completed in five years duration full-time. Each year of study at School of Law, Curriculum of this particular programme of CT University is divided into two semesters each, 1 make up week, 1 reading and revision week, and 1 examinations week. The fall semester will start from August and end in December. The winter semester will start from February and end in June.

Eligibility Criteria

10+2 or equivalent in any stream with English as a compulsory subject from a recognized board and having atleast 45% marks. 5% relaxation can be given to SC Students only

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts, nature, scope, and significance of sociology. It examines society, culture, socialization, social groups, institutions, and social interaction, with emphasis on understanding the relationship between law and society.

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts and theories of political science, including state, sovereignty, liberty, equality, justice, rights, and democracy. It enables students to understand major political ideologies and theories of governance and their relevance to law.

This course provides an overview of the history of ancient India, focusing on the evolution of Indian civilization, society, culture, political institutions, and administrative systems. It also examines the development of legal and religious traditions and their influence on the Indian legal system.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles governing contracts under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. It covers the essentials of a valid contract, offer and acceptance, consideration, capacity to contract, free consent, legality of object, and related principles governing contractual relationships.

This course introduces students to the nature, principles, and development of the Law of Torts and the remedies available for civil wrongs. It examines negligence, nuisance, defamation, strict and absolute liability, vicarious liability, general defenses, and principles of consumer protection through statutory provisions and judicial decisions.

This course introduces students to universal human values and their significance in personal, social, professional, and academic life. It promotes ethical understanding, responsible behaviour, human dignity, harmonious relationships, social responsibility, and sensitivity towards environmental sustainability.

2ND SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course examines the structure and organization of society with particular emphasis on major social institutions such as family, marriage, education, religion, economy, and political institutions. It enables students to understand social stratification, social change, and the relationship between social institutions and law.

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts, institutions, and processes of political science. It examines government, constitution, democracy, political participation, representation, political parties, and the relationship between political institutions and the legal system.

This course provides an understanding of major developments in modern Indian and world history, including colonialism, nationalism, industrialization, major political movements, world wars, and the emergence of modern political and legal institutions. It helps students understand the historical foundations of contemporary legal and political systems.

This course deals with special contracts and their legal implications under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. It covers indemnity, guarantee, bailment, pledge, and agency, along with the rights, duties, liabilities, and remedies of parties and relevant judicial decisions.

This course introduces students to the nature, meaning, scope, and significance of jurisprudence as the philosophical and theoretical study of law. It examines major schools of jurisprudence, including Natural Law, Analytical, Historical, Sociological, and Realist schools, along with concepts of rights, duties, possession, ownership, liability, justice, and punishment. 3RD SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course examines the relationship between law and society and explores the role of law as an instrument of social change and transformation. It focuses on social inequality, caste, gender, discrimination, social conflicts, modernization, and changing social institutions, with emphasis on the interaction between legal systems and social development.

This course provides an understanding of the structure and functioning of the Indian political system. It covers the Union and State governments, Parliament, Executive, Judiciary, electoral institutions, political parties, pressure groups, federal relations, and contemporary issues in Indian governance.

This course introduces the fundamental concepts and principles of microeconomics and their relevance to economic decision-making. It examines demand and supply, consumer behaviour, utility, production, cost, market structures, and price determination, enabling students to understand the economic factors influencing individuals, businesses, and markets.

This course introduces students to the foundational principles and structure of substantive criminal law under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. It covers criminal liability, punishments, general exceptions, abetment, criminal conspiracy, attempt, and major principles governing offences, supported by relevant statutory provisions and judicial interpretation.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the sources, schools, principles, and development of Hindu law relating to family relationships. It examines Hindu marriage, matrimonial remedies, adoption, maintenance, guardianship, and related legal principles through statutory provisions and judicial decisions.

This course introduces students to the philosophy, structure, salient features, and fundamental principles of the Constitution of India. It examines Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy, constitutional limitations, judicial review, constitutional remedies, and the relationship between individual liberty and state authority.

This course introduces students to the legal, ethical, and policy dimensions of healthcare and public health. It examines patient rights, medical ethics, informed consent, confidentiality, healthcare regulation, public health responsibilities, biomedical research, emerging technologies, and the balance between individual rights and public health interests.

4TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course examines the processes and patterns of social dynamics and their relationship with law. It focuses on social stratification, mobility, conflict, social change, social control, collective behaviour, and the functioning of social institutions, highlighting the role of law in regulating and responding to changing social conditions.

This course provides an in-depth understanding of the constitutional and political structure of the Indian government at the Union, State, and local levels. It examines the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, constitutional authorities, local self-government, and the distribution and exercise of political power within the constitutional framework.

This course introduces the fundamental principles of macroeconomics and examines the functioning of the economy as a whole. It covers national income, employment, inflation, economic growth and development, monetary and fiscal policies, banking, public finance, and the role of government in achieving economic stability and development.

This course focuses on major offences and criminal liabilities under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. It examines offences against the human body, property, public order, the State, women and children, and other specific offences, with emphasis on their essential ingredients, applicable punishments, statutory provisions, and judicial interpretation.

This course introduces students to the sources, schools, principles, and fundamental concepts of Muslim personal law. It examines marriage, dower, divorce, maintenance, inheritance, gifts, wills, guardianship, and other aspects of Muslim family law with reference to statutory provisions, customary principles, and judicial decisions.

This course examines the constitutional framework governing the Union and States, with particular emphasis on federal relations and the distribution of legislative, executive, and financial powers. It covers separation of powers, constitutional amendments, emergency provisions, judicial review, constitutional institutions, and evolving principles of Indian constitutionalism.

This course provides students with practical exposure to courts, law firms, legal departments, NGOs, government institutions, and other approved legal organizations. Students engage in legal research, drafting, documentation, case analysis, observation of court proceedings, and professional interaction, thereby developing practical legal skills and understanding professional ethics and responsibilities.

5TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides an understanding of the legal framework governing business and commercial activities in India. It covers business organizations, partnership, sale of goods, negotiable instruments, competition law, and other important aspects of commercial transactions, enabling students to understand legal rights, duties, and liabilities in the business environment.

This course introduces students to the foundational principles, scope, objectives, and structure of substantive criminal law under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. It examines criminal liability, punishments, general exceptions, abetment, criminal conspiracy, attempt, and essential principles relating to major offences.

This course introduces students to the nature, sources, principles, and scope of Public International Law. It examines states and other international subjects, recognition, jurisdiction, nationality, extradition, treaties, state responsibility, international organizations, and the law of the sea, with reference to contemporary international legal developments.

This course examines the principles and techniques used by courts to interpret statutory provisions and ascertain legislative intent. It covers literal, golden, mischief, purposive, harmonious, beneficial, and other rules of interpretation, along with principles of legislation and relevant judicial decisions.

This course introduces students to the principles, methods, and techniques of legal and socio-legal research. It covers research design, identification of research problems, formulation of research questions and hypotheses, literature review, research methods, data collection, analysis, citation, referencing, and academic research writing.

6TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course focuses on specific offences and criminal liability under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. It examines offences against the human body, property, public order, the State, women and children, and other specific offences, with emphasis on their essential ingredients, punishments, statutory provisions, and judicial precedents.

This course examines the constitutional and statutory framework governing public services and employment in India. It covers recruitment, appointment, conditions of service, seniority, promotion, transfer, suspension, disciplinary proceedings, dismissal, termination, and principles of natural justice applicable to public employment.

This course provides an understanding of the legal framework regulating industrial relations and employment in India. It examines industrial disputes, wages, social security, working conditions, trade unions, occupational safety, employee welfare, and the rights and obligations of employers and employees under applicable labour legislation.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles governing ownership, possession, and transfer of property. It examines the legal framework relating to sale, mortgage, lease, exchange, gift, actionable claims, and other modes of transfer, along with the rights, duties, and liabilities of parties involved in property transactions.

This course provides students with practical exposure to courts, law offices, legal institutions, NGOs, government departments, and other professional legal organizations. It enables students to apply classroom knowledge through legal research, drafting, case analysis, documentation, observation of proceedings, and professional assignments while developing ethical and professional skills.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and legal framework governing cyberspace and digital activities. It covers cyber offences, electronic records, digital signatures, electronic transactions, privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, intermediary liability, and emerging legal challenges arising from the use of information and communication technologies.

7TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course develops practical skills in legal drafting, pleadings, and conveyancing. It covers the preparation of plaints, written statements, petitions, applications, affidavits, notices, agreements, deeds, and other legal documents, with emphasis on clarity, precision, legal language, and professional drafting standards.

This course examines the principles governing the exercise of administrative power and the relationship between administrative authorities and individuals. It covers delegated legislation, administrative discretion, principles of natural justice, judicial review, administrative tribunals, remedies, and control over administrative action.

This course examines the legal and constitutional principles underlying transparency, accountability, and good governance. It focuses on the Right to Information framework, rights and duties of public authorities, exemptions, information commissions, appeals and remedies, and the role of transparency in strengthening democratic governance and public accountability.

8TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course deals with advanced aspects of civil procedure and the legal framework governing the enforcement and final determination of civil rights. It covers execution of decrees and orders, appeals, reference, review, revision, special proceedings, and principles relating to limitation of suits and proceedings under the Limitation Act.

This course introduces students to the principles and rules governing evidence in judicial proceedings under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023. It examines relevancy and admissibility of facts, admissions, confessions, dying declarations, documentary and oral evidence, burden of proof, presumptions, and electronic and digital evidence.

This course provides an understanding of the nature, scope, importance, and legal protection of intellectual property. It examines patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications, industrial designs, trade secrets, and other forms of intellectual property, including infringement, remedies, and contemporary developments in Indian and international IP law.

This course examines the legal and regulatory framework governing cyberspace and digital activities. It covers electronic transactions, digital signatures, cyber offences, electronic records and evidence, data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, intermediary liability, and legal remedies available under Indian cyber law.

This course provides practical and theoretical understanding of professional ethics and the standards governing the legal profession in India. It examines the duties of advocates towards courts, clients, opponents, colleagues, and society, professional misconduct, disciplinary proceedings, standards of professional conduct, and the basic principles of professional accounting and management of legal practice.

9TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the concept, evolution, nature, classification, and significance of human rights. It examines international and regional human rights frameworks, major international instruments, and the constitutional and statutory safeguards available in India. The course also explores human rights issues relating to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, human dignity, equality, liberty, social justice, and the role of courts and institutions in protecting human rights.

This course provides an understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing banking and insurance institutions in India. It examines banker-customer relationships, banking transactions, negotiable instruments, lending and recovery mechanisms, electronic banking, and the rights and liabilities of banks and customers. The course also covers the principles of insurance contracts, different types of insurance, claims, settlement of disputes, and the role of regulatory authorities.

This course examines the legal framework for environmental protection and sustainable development in India. It covers constitutional provisions, major environmental legislation, international environmental principles, regulatory institutions, environmental impact assessment, pollution control, conservation of natural resources, and protection of biodiversity. The course emphasizes judicial interpretation of principles such as sustainable development, precautionary principle, polluter pays principle, and public trust doctrine.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the legal principles governing land ownership, possession, transfer, acquisition, tenancy, land revenue, and land administration. It examines relevant land laws and regulatory mechanisms along with the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. The course focuses on registration and regulation of real estate projects, duties and responsibilities of promoters and allottees, rights of homebuyers, dispute resolution, and the functioning of RERA authorities.

This clinical course provides practical and theoretical understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms as effective alternatives to conventional litigation. It covers the concept, evolution, principles, and methods of arbitration, mediation, conciliation, negotiation, and other dispute resolution mechanisms. The course develops students’ practical skills in dispute analysis, negotiation, mediation, arbitration proceedings, drafting, advocacy, and professional ethics through case studies, simulations, exercises, and relevant judicial decisions.

10TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of corporate and white-collar crimes, their nature, characteristics, causes, and impact on businesses, financial institutions, and society. It examines corporate fraud, corruption, bribery, money laundering, insider trading, securities-related offences, financial crimes, and corporate criminal liability. The course also focuses on the relevant statutory framework, regulatory mechanisms, investigation, prosecution, and judicial approaches to corporate and white-collar offences.

This course provides an understanding of the constitutional foundation and legal principles governing taxation in India. It covers the nature and classification of taxes, income tax, assessment procedures, taxable income, exemptions, deductions, tax liability, tax administration, and Goods and Services Tax (GST). The course also examines the powers and functions of tax authorities, taxpayer rights and obligations, tax disputes, appeals, and remedies under the applicable laws.

This course examines the constitutional, statutory, and international legal framework for the protection and empowerment of women and children. It covers laws relating to domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual offences, trafficking, child marriage, child labour, adoption, maintenance, and juvenile justice. The course emphasizes the rights of women and children, protective mechanisms, institutional safeguards, and the role of courts and law-enforcement agencies in ensuring justice and protection.

This course develops an understanding of the principles, rules, and techniques used by courts to interpret and apply legislation. It covers literal, golden, mischief, purposive, and harmonious construction, along with internal and external aids to interpretation. The course also examines presumptions, delegated legislation, beneficial and penal statutes, retrospective operation, and other principles of statutory construction through important judicial precedents.

This clinical course provides students with practical training in legal research, case analysis, drafting of memorials, oral advocacy, and courtroom presentation. Students are exposed to simulated legal proceedings based on hypothetical or actual legal problems and are required to identify legal issues, research relevant statutory provisions and precedents, prepare written submissions, and present arguments before a moot court. The course aims to develop advocacy skills, professional confidence, legal reasoning, courtroom etiquette, and ethical conduct.
