Legum Magister or Masters of Law (LL.M) is a postgraduate degree in Law. Basic entry requirement for this postgraduate course is an undergraduate degree in Law (LL.B) from any recognized University. Law students or legal professionals either desiring to pursue or already pursuing the course develop an in-depth understanding and expertise in a specialized field of law. Now many law firms give preference to legal professionals with LL.M due to their specialization in a particular field.

eligibility criteria

Passed Bachelor in Law Degree (with not less than 50% marks)from any University recognized by Bar Council of India  or an equivalent Law Degree from any Foreign country with Minimum 50% marks in aggregate. 5% relaxation can be given to SC Students only.

1ST SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the nature, scope, objectives, and significance of legal research. It introduces students to scientific and systematic approaches to socio-legal research, including doctrinal and non-doctrinal methods. The course covers research design, formulation of research questions and hypotheses, literature review, research tools and techniques, collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, legal databases, citation methods, and research ethics. It also develops students’ skills in legal writing, preparation of research proposals, dissertations, research articles, case comments, and project reports.

Course Outcome:
  1. The main objective of this course is to acquaint the students of law with the scientific methods of socio legal research.
  2. To familiarize students with the nature, scope, and significance of legal research and its role in the development of law and legal scholarship.
  3. To develop an understanding of various research methodologies applicable to legal studies, including doctrinal and non-doctrinal (empirical) research methods.
  4. To train students in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of legal data using both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  5. To develop proficiency in legal writing and academic communication, including research proposals, dissertations, articles, case comments, and project reports.

This course examines the concepts of law, justice, and globalization and explores their interrelationship in the contemporary global legal order. It analyses the impact of globalization on national legal systems, state sovereignty, governance, human rights, international institutions, economic regulation, and access to justice. The course also considers emerging global legal challenges and the changing relationship between national and international legal regimes.

Course Outcome:
  1. Explain the concepts of globalization, law and justice and examine their interrelationship in the contemporary international legal order.
  2. Analyse the impact of globalization on national legal systems, sovereignty, governance, human rights and access to justice.

This course introduces students to the nature, scope, methodology, and significance of Comparative Public Law. It examines and compares the constitutional structures, institutions, principles, and practices of different jurisdictions, with particular emphasis on India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The course covers constitutionalism, separation of powers, judicial review, federalism, parliamentary and presidential systems, protection of fundamental rights, and the functioning of constitutional institutions from a comparative perspective.

Course Outcome:
  1. Explain the meaning, nature, scope and significance of Comparative Public Law and its relevance to the study of different constitutional systems.
  2. Compare the structures, principles and functioning of major constitutional systems, particularly India, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The Core Elective Basket provides students with an opportunity to pursue specialized areas of legal study according to their academic interests and professional objectives. The elective courses are designed to facilitate advanced and critical engagement with contemporary legal issues, emerging areas of law, theoretical perspectives, and specialized legal frameworks.

This elective enables students to undertake advanced study in a specialized area of law within their chosen discipline. It is designed to develop critical thinking, analytical abilities, legal research skills, and an in-depth understanding of contemporary legal issues through statutory analysis, judicial precedents, academic literature, and comparative perspectives.

2ND SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides students with an opportunity to undertake an independent and systematic research study on a contemporary legal issue under the guidance of a supervisor. It involves identification of a research problem, formulation of research objectives and questions, review of literature, selection and application of appropriate research methodology, collection and analysis of relevant legal materials and data, and preparation of a comprehensive dissertation. The course also develops students’ skills in legal writing, critical analysis, presentation, and defence of their research findings through a Viva Voce.
