Legum Magister or Masters of Law (LL.M.) is a postgraduate degree in Law. Basic entry requirement for this postgraduate course is an undergraduate degree in Law (LL.B.) from any recognised University. 

Industry Immersion

Law students or legal professionals either desiring to pursue or already pursuing the course develop an in-depth understanding and expertise in a specialised field of law. Now many law firms give preference to legal professionals with LL.M. due to their specialization in a particular field.

eligibility criteria

Passed Bachelor of Law Degree (with not less than 50% marks)from any University recognized by Bar Council of India  or an equivalent Law Degree from any Foreign country with Minimum 50% marks in aggregate. 5% relaxation can be given to SC Students only

1ST SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides an advanced understanding of the nature, scope, objectives, and significance of legal research. It introduces students to doctrinal and non-doctrinal research approaches, research design, formulation of research questions and hypotheses, literature review, research methods, data collection and analysis, and research ethics. The course also develops skills in legal writing, academic communication, citation, preparation of research proposals, dissertations, research papers, and other scholarly legal works.

Course Outcome:

CO1: Explain the meaning, nature, scope and objectives of legal research and distinguish between doctrinal and non-doctrinal research.

CO2: Analyse different research methodologies, research designs, research questions, hypotheses and methods of data collection relevant to legal research.

This course examines the concepts of globalization, law, and justice and their interrelationship in the contemporary global legal order. It explores the impact of globalization on national legal systems, state sovereignty, governance, human rights, economic regulation, international institutions, and access to justice. The course also critically examines emerging global legal challenges and the interaction between domestic and international legal regimes.

Course Outcome:

CO2: Analyse the impact of globalization on national legal systems, sovereignty, governance, human rights and access to justice.

This course provides an advanced study of Comparative Public Law and its significance in understanding contemporary constitutional systems. It examines and compares constitutional structures, institutions, principles, and practices of major jurisdictions, particularly India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The course focuses on constitutionalism, separation of powers, federalism, judicial review, protection of fundamental rights, legislative and executive structures, and comparative constitutional developments.

Course Outcome:

CO1: Explain the meaning, nature, scope and significance of Comparative Public Law and its relevance to contemporary constitutional studies.

CO2: Compare the structures, principles and functioning of major constitutional systems, particularly India, the United Kingdom and the United States.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the principles, evolution, and institutional framework of juvenile justice and child protection. It examines the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, constitutional safeguards, international conventions, and mechanisms dealing with children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection. The course also analyses juvenile justice institutions, rehabilitation, reintegration, adoption, child welfare mechanisms, and contemporary challenges in child protection.

Course Outcome:

CO1: Explain the concept, evolution and underlying principles of juvenile justice and child rights in India and the international legal framework.

CO2: Analyse the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and relevant constitutional and international safeguards for children.

This course provides an advanced understanding of white-collar and economic crimes, including their nature, characteristics, causes, forms, and socio-economic impact. It examines corporate fraud, corruption, bribery, money laundering, financial fraud, tax offences, securities-related offences, cyber-enabled economic crimes, and other financial irregularities. The course also analyses the relevant statutory and regulatory framework, investigation and enforcement mechanisms, corporate criminal liability, and judicial approaches to economic offences.

Course Outcome:

CO1: Explain the meaning, nature, characteristics, causes and various forms of white-collar and economic crimes.

CO2: Analyse the legal framework governing corporate fraud, corruption, bribery, money laundering, financial fraud and other economic offences.

2ND SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides an advanced and critical study of jurisprudence as the philosophical and theoretical foundation of law. It examines the meaning, nature, scope, and significance of jurisprudence and its relationship with legal theory, philosophy, politics, sociology, and other disciplines. The course critically explores major schools of jurisprudence, including Natural Law, Analytical, Historical, Sociological, and Realist schools, along with contemporary approaches to legal thought, concepts of justice, rights, duties, liability, and the relationship between law and morality.

CO1: Explain the nature, meaning, scope and significance of jurisprudence and its relationship with legal theory and other disciplines.

CO2: Critically analyse the major schools of jurisprudence, including Natural Law, Analytical, Historical, Sociological and Realist schools.

This course provides an advanced study of the philosophical foundations, structure, and essential features of the Constitution of India. It examines constitutionalism, fundamental rights, directive principles, separation of powers, federalism, judicial review, constitutional remedies, and the role of constitutional institutions. The course critically analyses emerging trends in constitutional interpretation, evolving human rights jurisprudence, transformative constitutionalism, and contemporary constitutional challenges through significant judicial decisions.

This course provides an advanced understanding of criminology and penology and their role in the administration of criminal justice. It examines the nature, scope, development, and causes of crime and criminal behaviour through biological, psychological, sociological, economic, and contemporary theories. The course also covers theories and objectives of punishment, sentencing, correctional institutions, rehabilitation, probation, parole, restorative justice, victimology, and emerging approaches to crime prevention and correctional administration.

Course Outcome:

CO1: Explain the meaning, nature, scope and development of criminology and penology and their relationship with criminal justice administration.

CO2: Critically analyse major theories of crime, criminal behaviour and causation, including biological, psychological, sociological and contemporary theories.

This course provides an advanced study of personal laws governing family relationships in India. It examines the sources, schools, principles, and contemporary development of major personal laws relating to marriage, divorce, maintenance, adoption, guardianship, succession, and matrimonial remedies. Particular emphasis is placed on the legal requirements and consequences of marriage, restitution of conjugal rights, judicial separation, divorce, matrimonial disputes, gender justice, and evolving judicial approaches to family law.

Course Outcome:

CO1: Explain the sources, schools and fundamental principles of major personal laws governing family relationships in India.

CO2: Analyse the legal requirements and consequences of marriage, divorce, restitution of conjugal rights, judicial separation and matrimonial remedies.

3RD SEMESTER SUBJECTS

4TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides postgraduate law students with practical exposure to teaching and academic activities in a legal education environment. It enables students to develop teaching skills through lesson planning, preparation of course materials, classroom teaching, student engagement, assessment, and academic mentoring under the supervision of experienced faculty members. The internship also provides exposure to curriculum planning, evaluation methods, academic administration, and professional ethics in legal education. It aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical teaching experience while developing effective communication, presentation, research, and pedagogical skills.
