About the Programme

The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) is a full-time Undergraduate Programme of Three Years’ Duration offered by the School of Law, CT University, Ludhiana. The Programme is structured into Six Semesters, with Two Semesters in each Academic Year. Each semester comprises academic instruction, a make-up week, a reading and revision week, and an examination week. The Fall Semester generally commences in August and concludes in December, while the Spring Semester commences in January and concludes in June.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University with at least 45% marks.

Relaxation: A 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks shall be applicable to candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Category, as per the applicable University/Government norms.

1ST SEMESTER SUBJECTS

This course provides an understanding of the Constitution of India, its philosophy, structure and fundamental principles. It covers the constitutional framework, citizenship, fundamental rights, directive principles of state policy, fundamental duties and the relationship between the individual and the State.

This course examines the fundamental principles governing contractual relationships under Indian law. It covers offer, acceptance, consideration, capacity, free consent, legality of object, performance, discharge, breach, frustration, remedies and quasi-contractual obligations.
Course Outcome:
CO1: Understand the basic principles of contract law and explain the essential requirements of a valid contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872, including offer, acceptance, consideration, and intention to create legal relations.
CO2: Analyze the validity of contracts by examining important concepts such as capacity to contract, free consent, legality of object and consideration, and agreements that are void or voidable.

This course deals with the principles governing civil wrongs and liabilities arising from tortious acts. It covers general principles of tortious liability, negligence, nuisance, defamation, trespass, strict and vicarious liability, remedies, motor vehicle accident claims and consumer rights and remedies under the Motor Vehicles Act and Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

This course introduces students to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), which provides the substantive framework of criminal law in India. It examines the historical development, objectives, scope and fundamental principles of criminal liability, along with general explanations, stages of crime, intention, knowledge, common intention, abetment and related principles. The course also enables students to understand the significant changes introduced by the BNS in comparison with the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

This course provides students with an understanding of the fundamental principles and legal framework governing labour and industrial relations in India. It covers the rights and obligations of employers and employees, conditions of employment, wages, social security, trade unions, industrial disputes, collective bargaining, strikes, lockouts, retrenchment, lay-off, and termination of employment. The course also examines the relevant labour legislation and the role of authorities and institutions in maintaining industrial peace, social justice, and harmonious employer–employee relations.
