3RD SEMESTER SUBJECTS

Covers advanced organic chemistry including aromatic compounds, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms and heterocyclic chemistry important in drug synthesis and pharmaceutical applications.

Introduces physicochemical principles such as solubility, distribution phenomena, surface and interfacial properties, rheology and micromeritics relevant to dosage-form design.

Covers microorganisms, sterilization, disinfection, microbial contamination, aseptic techniques, microbial assays and pharmaceutical applications of microbiology.

Explains engineering principles and unit operations used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, including size reduction, mixing, filtration, drying, evaporation and heat transfer.

Provides practical training in synthesis, purification, identification and characterization of selected organic compounds and reaction products.

Demonstrates physicochemical principles through experiments involving solubility, partition coefficient, surface tension, viscosity, rheology and related properties.

Provides practical skills in aseptic handling, staining, culture, sterilization, microbial testing and evaluation of antimicrobial agents.

Demonstrates pharmaceutical unit operations and engineering calculations through experiments involving filtration, drying, mixing, size reduction and related processes.

Develops verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills required for professional interaction, patient counselling, presentations, interviews, teamwork and effective healthcare communication.

4TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

Covers advanced organic and medicinally relevant chemistry including heterocyclic compounds, named reactions and synthetic approaches important in pharmaceutical chemistry.

Introduces principles of drug design, structure-activity relationships and chemistry of selected therapeutic classes, linking chemical structure with biological activity.

Covers advanced physicochemical principles including colloids, suspensions, emulsions, reaction kinetics, stability and other concepts important in formulation development.

Introduces natural drugs, crude-drug classification, cultivation, collection, processing, evaluation and major phytoconstituents obtained from medicinal plants.

Provides practical training in synthesis, identification and characterization of selected medicinal compounds and basic medicinal chemistry techniques.

Demonstrates formulation-related physicochemical concepts through experiments on suspensions, emulsions, kinetics, stability and dispersed systems.

5TH SEMESTER SUBJECTS

Continues medicinal chemistry with chemistry, structure-activity relationships and therapeutic applications of additional drug classes.

Covers formulation development, production and evaluation of tablets, capsules, liquid orals, parenterals, ophthalmics and other pharmaceutical dosage forms at industrial scale.

Deals with advanced study of natural products, secondary metabolites, extraction, isolation, identification and medicinal applications of plant-derived constituents.

Introduces laws, regulations and ethical requirements governing pharmacy profession, manufacture, sale, distribution and control of drugs and cosmetics.
